I look forward to reading this book. I’m reading Eliot Coleman’s Four Season Harvest and I’m totally fascinated – it seems like it could really be possible to grow veggies of some kind year round – especially in California! If he can do it in Maine, it’s like throwing down the gauntlet. Have you ever tried this? I’m curious if it is too good to be true.
Amy, I mentioned my friend just recommended “Four Season Harvest”, and then I requested from my library his book,”The New Organic Grower, A Master’s Manual of Tools and Techniques”, which looks good, too. Right now I have fava beans, leeks, brussel sprouts in my garden. I just planted from seed peas, and lettuce this weekend. My goal is to have a full year-round potager….I’m getting close….Try it…Thanks for your great comment…VintageGardenGal
It is most definitely a great year to be focused on edibles…there are a couple of really great edible gardening books out there and there is no doubt the flower and garden shows will all have similar sessions.
Jean Ann, you are so right. I absolutely love the idea of combining flowers and vegetables together. Home-grown food is a real passion of mine.

Our “Edibles” are the local hangout for bunnies, raccoons and all things which REALLY like that we garden. They WANT us to get that book.
Lydia, you are so right. I’m a little bit “Beatrix Potter” so I feel there is some for everyone. Try planting narcissus bulbs around the perimeter of your vegetable garden, make sure you have a nice fence around it, too. Try bird netting in a creative way. And for the raccoons, good luck!
