Many thanks, Ron, for your kind comment. I look forward to seeing you at Rogers Gardens, one of my favorite places to give talks. Regarding my new organic book, one of the parts I most enjoyed researching and writing was the month-by-month information on rose care. I had fun giving gardeners a choice of ways to accomplish this and even recipes for creating homemade concoctions for feeding and for pest and disease control. I am eager to get some feedback next year regarding people's success. One difference is that one begins feeding much earlier—January instead of after leaves unfurl.

Thank you for your kind reply, Paul. I cannot call myself a blogger, since I don't think I could do that as well as write books, and I am writing another one. But I do have a website and thanks to a new partnership with a web expert it is now upgraded and I hope more helpful. I'd be pleased if you would visit it sometime and let me know if you find helpful advice for UK also. I am originally English myself, from Yorkshire and I went back there this summer and enormously enjoyed the unspoiled countryside of Yorkshire and the Lake District.

Pat Welsh is certainly the queen of Southern California gardening. Once again, Pat clarifies the local gardening year perfectly, with confidence and certainty; advice harvested from a lifetime of gardening and growing. Follow Pat’s advice and your gardening adventures will never be more rewarding.

Dear Bonnie: Thank you so much for your very kind review of my new book and thank you Paul for retailing it in the U.K. (F.Y.I.: My publisher, Chronicle Books, is now part of the Hachette Book Group, USA, originally a British company and might be the explanation that the book is sold in the UK and surprisingly, also in India.) The information regarding tropical and subtropical plants, including citrus, and also many vegetable crops, and annual, biennial, and perennial flowers would apply to other mild climates throughout the world, but especially to Mediterranean climates like South Africa and south west Australia. Only the timing would have to be changed. Many thanks for your kind comments and I hope you enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed writing it, Pat.

There are not many essential gardening books out there that you can really get your teeth into and read without falling asleep. That is the problem we are finding nowadays. There are several very good gardening books out there, this being one of them, but it is very hard to wade through the trash so to speak and find something of interest. I suppose with the groth of internet sites based on gardening, people are more reluctant to put so much effort into writing books like they did in the old days. I love reading gardening blogs and soaking up information like a sponge, but you cant beat a good book for reference.
